Getting the App
Download or update Your Dates from the App Store. Universal links (for example from a shared event) open the App when it is installed; otherwise this website offers an App Store link.
Common topics
- Notifications — enable in the App under Settings and in iOS Settings → Notifications → Your Dates. Per-event reminders are scheduled on your device. The optional daily digest sends one summary notification per day when enabled. In version 1.0 it is available along with other features at no charge; a future update may gate some options behind Your Dates Pro.
- Data hub — import, export, calendars, backup, and data management are under Settings → Data (Import, export, and backup).
- Apple Calendar — import and export are in Settings → Data (Calendars). Grant calendar access when iOS asks. Exported events may include a note marking them as from Your Dates. After import, the App may suggest linking people or flag similar existing events.
- Google Calendar — when enabled in your App build, sign in under Settings → Data. Sign out there to remove tokens from your device. Import/export issues may relate to Google account permissions or API limits.
- Contacts — import a single person via the contact picker when editing a person, or use bulk birthday import from Settings → Data during onboarding or later. Only contacts you confirm are read; nothing is uploaded to Lutarea servers.
- Backup and export — Settings → Data → Backup. Use Save to backup folder to write a timestamped ZIP (for example
YourDates-backup-…zip) to your backup location, Export backup to pick any destination via the system file picker, or Import backup from a ZIP/JSON file. By default, backups go to the shared Lutarea iCloud folder Lutarea BACKUPS / Your Dates Backups (containeriCloud.com.lutarea.backups) when you are signed into iCloud. You can Choose folder… for a custom location (remembered until you reset) or Reset to default folder. A smallmanifest.jsonmay be written alongside backups. ZIP files are not encrypted by the App — store them securely. This user backup store is separate from optional CloudKit sync (iCloud.com.lutarea.yourdates). Optional weekly auto-backup (Pro) is in Settings → Data → Auto-backup and overwritesYourDates-auto-backup.zipin the same backup folder; if a run fails, the last error appears on that screen. CSV/ICS export is in Settings → Data → Export (Pro). When restoring, you can merge from a file (skip duplicates) or replace all data. - Recovery after update — if your database cannot be migrated after an App update, the App may create a recovery ZIP automatically and show an alert on next launch. Open Settings → Data → Backup, section "Recovery after update", to share the ZIP and import it with "Add from file" or "Replace all". A technical copy of the previous database file may remain in the App folder for support.
- Merge duplicate people — in Settings → Data (Manage), choose source and target profiles to combine events and links. This cannot be undone; review carefully before confirming.
- iCloud sync (CloudKit) — optional in Settings → iCloud. When you turn it on, restart the App as prompted. Requires the same Apple ID signed into iCloud on each device. Sync covers your SwiftData records; photos may move to your iCloud container on first enable. If sync looks stale, open the App on iPhone to refresh, check iCloud storage, and ensure iCloud Drive/CloudKit is enabled for the App in iOS Settings. Turning sync off stops further CloudKit updates after restart; it does not delete data already on the device.
- Apple Watch — install the Watch app from the iPhone App Store listing (companion embedded in Your Dates). Enable "Show on Apple Watch" in iPhone Settings. The Watch app is read-only: edit events on iPhone. Add complications from the watch face gallery. Today's events come from the same on-device catalog as the iPhone widget; open the iPhone App or change events to refresh that catalog.
- Live Activity — when there are birthdays today, a Live Activity may appear on the Lock Screen or Dynamic Island. Controlled by iOS; dismiss or allow in system settings like other Live Activities.
- Share extension and Shortcuts — share text or links into Your Dates from the system share sheet, or use the Shortcuts / Siri action to open the App with a draft event. Confirm imports in the App before saving.
- Widgets — add the Today widget from the home screen or Lock Screen widget gallery. When you open the App or change events, it saves an on-device event catalog to a shared App Group container. The widget uses that catalog to show the correct day at midnight for up to two weeks without reopening the App; iOS may then refresh the widget timeline from the same catalog until you open the App again. Lock Screen accessory widgets use the same data.
- Menstrual cycle overlay — optional personal tracking on the calendar tab. You can hide the cycle section in Settings. This is not medical advice; see Terms.
- App language — change in Settings without losing your current tab. Interface languages include English, Russian, Ukrainian, Czech, German, Spanish, French, Italian, and Slovak (plus system default).
- Universal links — links under
lutarea.com/apps/dates/…open the App when installed and Associated Domains are active on your build. Shared event links may include encoded event data; the App asks you to confirm before import. If the App is not installed, this website shows an App Store link. - Your Dates Pro — the App is currently free on the App Store with no in-app purchases. Features such as daily digest, auto-backup, iCloud sync, calendar import/export, bulk contact import, CSV/ICS export, Live Activity, Watch companion, and premium themes are labeled Pro in the product roadmap. In version 1.0 they are all available at no charge while paid Pro is in development. Manual ZIP backup to your backup folder and import/restore remain available when iCloud or a custom folder is set up.
- Legal documents — Terms, Privacy Policy, Support, and the support email are in Settings → Documents and on this website.
- Deleting data — remove people and events in the App, or uninstall the App to remove on-device storage. Items you exported to Apple Calendar or Google Calendar remain in those services until you delete them there.
Reporting a problem
When you email support, include your iOS version, App version (Settings → About if shown, or App Store version), and steps to reproduce the issue. Screenshots help. We do not provide medical advice for menstrual-cycle features; see Terms for disclaimers.
