Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Lutarea ("we", "us", or "our") handles information in connection with the mobile application Your Manga (the "App") for Apple iOS and iPadOS, including the Share Extension and home screen widgets. The App uses the bundle identifier com.lutarea.yourmanga; the Share Extension uses com.lutarea.yourmanga.shareextension; widget extensions use com.lutarea.yourmanga.widget.

1. Summary

Your Manga is a personal manga and comics library on your device. Catalog metadata is stored in library.json; chapter files live under managed folders on device. When you are signed into iCloud, the library may sync through Apple iCloud Drive (CloudDocuments container iCloud.com.lutarea.yourmanga). Optional JSON catalog backups you export are stored separately in the shared Lutarea iCloud Documents container (iCloud.com.lutarea.backups, shown in Files as Lutarea BACKUPS / Your Manga Backups) or in a folder you choose. Lutarea does not operate its own backend that receives your manga files for advertising or resale, and we do not embed third-party advertising or analytics SDKs in the App.

2. Data we process

Depending on how you use the App, categories of information may include:

  • Library metadata — series and chapter titles, authors, genres, demographics, summaries, cover filenames, reading progress, favorites, completion flags, volume grouping, per-series reader settings, and timestamps you enter or that are read from ComicInfo.xml.
  • Manga files — CBZ, CBR, ZIP, RAR, PDF, EPUB, and image folders you import; extracted pages and source files stored under the App's library directories (and in iCloud Drive when sync is active).
  • Reading statistics (local) — time spent in the reader and completed chapter keys, stored in a local reading-stats.json file on device (not synced to Lutarea servers; included in optional JSON catalog backups you export).
  • OPDS catalogs — HTTP(S) catalog URLs you save in Settings or the OPDS tab; stored locally in app preferences.
  • Import queue — pending download/import items (titles, source URLs, progress) persisted in App Group group.com.lutarea.yourmanga so imports can resume after restart.
  • Share Extension inbox — supported files you share into the App are copied temporarily into the App Group inbox until imported or removed.
  • Network downloads (user-initiated) — when you paste a direct file URL or download from an OPDS acquisition link, the App requests that URL over HTTPS. Responses are validated (file type, magic bytes; HTML pages are rejected). The App does not scrape website HTML readers or built-in third-party catalogs.
  • Photos (optional) — when you set a custom series cover, Apple's photo picker shares only the image you confirm.
  • App lock (optional) — passcode material in the device Keychain; Face ID / Touch ID handled by iOS when enabled under Settings → Security.
  • Widgets (optional) — limited snapshots (continue reading, favorites, reading stats summaries) written to the App Group for WidgetKit; not sent to Lutarea servers. When app lock hides content, widgets may omit titles and covers.
  • Spotlight and Shortcuts — series titles may be indexed on device for system search; Shortcuts you add open in-app flows (library, import, open series, OPDS).
  • Live Activity (optional) — import download progress may appear on the Lock Screen / Dynamic Island while a user-started import queue is active.
  • EPUB reader — EPUB spine pages may be shown in a web view loading extracted local HTML or images from the imported file only; not used to browse arbitrary websites.
  • User JSON backups — export writes catalog JSON (and optionally reading stats and saved OPDS URLs) to Lutarea BACKUPS or a custom folder; media files remain in the library iCloud container or local storage unless you manage them separately.
  • Preferences — theme, language, onboarding state, backup folder bookmarks, and similar options in UserDefaults / App Group storage on device.
  • Diagnostics visible to Apple — if you opt in to share analytics with Apple, Apple may collect crash or usage diagnostics under Apple's policies.

3. Purposes and legal bases (EEA, UK, and similar)

Where the GDPR or similar laws apply, we rely on appropriate bases such as:

  • Performance of a contract / steps at your request — providing the App and features you enable.
  • Legitimate interests — securing the App and improving stability, where not overridden by your rights.
  • Consent — where required for optional permissions (photos, biometrics), as managed by iOS.

4. Storage and retention

Core library data is stored on your device and, when iCloud is available, in your private iCloud Drive container. Widgets and the Share Extension use the App Group on the same device. Reading statistics and OPDS URLs stay on device unless included in a JSON backup you export. Retention is controlled by you: delete series or chapters in the App, clear the import queue, reset onboarding, or uninstall the App. JSON backups in iCloud Drive or elsewhere are files you manage.

5. Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. Data may be processed by:

  • Apple — App Store, iCloud Drive, WidgetKit, App Groups, Share Extension, photo pickers, Face ID / Touch ID, Spotlight, Siri Shortcuts, Live Activities, background URLSession downloads, and device security.
  • Servers you choose — when you download from a direct file URL or OPDS feed you added, those hosts receive standard HTTP requests from your device. Lutarea does not operate those servers.
  • Law and safety — if legally required, subject to applicable law.

6. International transfers

If you use iCloud or store backups in cloud storage, Apple (or your chosen folder provider) may process data under their terms. Lutarea does not operate its own cross-border database for your library.

7. Security

Protect your device, passcode, and Apple ID. Optional app lock and privacy cover in the app switcher help hide content on your device. JSON backups you export are your responsibility to store safely.

8. Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, rectify, delete, restrict, port, or object to processing. Much of this can be done in the App or by managing iCloud and exported files. Contact us at the email below for privacy requests.

9. Children

The App is not directed at children under the age where parental consent is required in your jurisdiction.

10. Changes

We may update this Policy; the "Last updated" date above will change. Additional notice will be provided where required by law.
