This Privacy Policy describes how Lutarea ("we", "us", or "our") handles information in connection with the mobile application Your Cookbook (the "App") for Apple iOS and iPadOS, including optional Apple Watch companion, home screen widget, Live Activity, and Share Extension. The App uses the bundle identifier com.lutarea.yourrecipes; the Cook Today widget uses com.lutarea.yourrecipes.CookTodayWidget; the Share Extension uses com.lutarea.yourrecipes.RecipeShareExtension; the Watch companion uses com.lutarea.yourrecipes.watchkitapp.
1. Summary
Your Cookbook stores your recipe catalog on your device using SwiftData. When you turn on iCloud sync in Settings, the App may also sync your records through Apple CloudKit in your private iCloud account (container iCloud.com.lutarea.YourRecipes). User backups you export are stored separately in the shared Lutarea iCloud Documents container (iCloud.com.lutarea.backups, shown in Files as Lutarea BACKUPS / Your Cookbook Backups) or in a folder you choose. Lutarea does not operate its own backend that receives your recipe data for advertising or resale, and we do not embed third-party advertising or analytics SDKs in the App.
2. Data we process
Depending on how you use the App, categories of information may include:
- Recipes — titles, summaries, categories, duration, servings, favorites, Cook Today queue timestamps, ingredients, step text, and sort order you enter.
- Photos — cover images and step photos you capture or pick from the photo library; stored on device and, when iCloud sync is enabled, in CloudKit external storage for photo payloads.
- Collections and menu plan — custom recipe collections and planned meals you create.
- Cooking sessions and shopping list — active cooking progress, timers, and shopping list items derived from recipes you cook.
- Preferences — theme, language, step display mode, iCloud sync toggle, onboarding state, and similar options stored locally or synced via CloudKit where applicable.
- Camera and photo library — when you attach photos to steps or covers, Apple's system pickers share only what you confirm.
- App lock and privacy screen — optional passcode and Face ID / Touch ID, and optional blur in the app switcher, are stored locally on your device.
- URL import and Share Extension — when you share a web page URL into the App, the Share Extension passes the URL through an App Group to the main App for optional recipe import. Lutarea does not receive that URL on its servers unless you configure optional remote diagnostics (see below).
- CloudKit sync (optional) — when enabled and iCloud is available, SwiftData records listed above may sync through CloudKit in container
iCloud.com.lutarea.YourRecipes. Apple processes this data under your iCloud account and Apple's terms. Lutarea does not receive a copy of your synced database on our servers. - User backups — when you export a backup, the App writes
your-recipes-backup-….zipor.jsonfiles containing recipes, collections, and menu plan entries to the shared Lutarea backups container or a custom folder you choose. This is separate from CloudKit sync. Backup files are not encrypted by the App; protect them like any personal document. - Widget, Live Activity, and Watch — limited summaries (for example today's cook queue or current step) may be written to App Group
group.com.lutarea.yourrecipesfor display on the home screen, Lock Screen, or Apple Watch; not sent to Lutarea servers. - Siri Shortcuts and deep links — App Intents and URLs such as
yourrecipes://open in-app flows on your device; no separate Lutarea account is required. - Diagnostics — the App may subscribe to Apple MetricKit for performance and crash diagnostics processed under Apple's policies. If a
RemoteDiagnosticsURLis configured in a given build, anonymized diagnostic payloads may also be POSTed to that HTTPS endpoint you or Lutarea operate; this is disabled by default in standard App Store builds unless explicitly enabled. - Diagnostics visible to Apple — if you opt in to share analytics with Apple as part of your device settings, Apple may also collect crash diagnostics separately.
3. Purposes and legal bases (EEA, UK, and similar)
Where the GDPR or similar laws apply, we rely on appropriate bases such as:
- Performance of a contract / steps at your request — providing the App and its features you choose to enable.
- Legitimate interests — securing the App, preventing abuse, and improving stability, where not overridden by your rights.
- Consent — where required for optional permissions, as managed by iOS.
4. Storage and retention
Data is stored locally using SwiftData. Optional CloudKit sync keeps a copy in your private iCloud when enabled. Widget, Live Activity, and Watch extensions read a small snapshot from the App Group on the same device; they do not copy your full library to Apple servers beyond what CloudKit sync already covers.
Retention is controlled by you: you can delete recipes, reset data where offered, or uninstall the App. Exported backups in iCloud Drive or elsewhere are files you manage yourself.
5. Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. Data may be processed by:
- Apple — as platform provider (App Store, device security, WidgetKit, Live Activities, WatchKit, App Groups, iCloud and CloudKit, camera and photo pickers).
- Law and safety — if we are legally required to disclose information, or to protect rights and safety, subject to applicable law.
When you share a recipe PDF or text using system share sheets, you choose the recipient or app; Lutarea does not receive that share action.
6. International transfers
If you enable CloudKit sync or store backups in iCloud, Apple may process data in data centers governed by Apple's terms. Optional remote diagnostics, if enabled, depend on the endpoint configured. Lutarea does not operate a central recipe database in the current version.
7. Security
The App supports optional passcode and biometric lock. You are responsible for keeping your device and Apple ID secure. Protect exported backup files because they may contain your recipes and embedded photos.
8. Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, rectify, delete, restrict, port, or object to certain processing of your personal data. Many requests can be fulfilled directly in the App (including deletion of recipes and exported files you control). You may also contact us using the email below.
9. Children
The App is not directed at children under the age where parental consent is required in your jurisdiction. Do not use the App for children below that age without appropriate parental authority and compliance with local rules.
10. Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will adjust the "Last updated" date above. Where required by law, we will provide additional notice.
