This page describes how to get help with Your Travels on iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch (companion). For legal terms see Terms of Service; for privacy see Privacy Policy.

Getting the App

Your Travels is distributed through the Apple App Store (or TestFlight during beta). Search for Your Travels by Lutarea on your iPhone or iPad.

The App requires iOS 17.0 or later on iPhone and iPad. Optional home screen widgets use the App Group group.com.lutarea.yourtravel. The optional Apple Watch companion requires watchOS 10.0 or later and is embedded in the iPhone App listing.

Common topics

  • World map and fog — countries start under fog; scratch to reveal visited countries, drop pins at country and street level, optional heatmap by place count, and share a map snapshot.
  • Places — save cities, hotels, restaurants with dates, notes, up to 50 photos per place, and browse on the Places tab or a map of all pins.
  • Trips and wishlist — group places into trips with dates, cover photos, route maps, optional budget (categories, multi-currency totals, split expenses), and expense charts across trips; keep a separate wishlist with priority and dates.
  • Search, stats, and achievements — global search across countries, places, trips, and wishlist; stats with year-in-review and records; achievements unlocked as you travel.
  • iCloud sync (CloudKit) — when you are signed into iCloud on the device, the App syncs your SwiftData records (including visited countries, places, trips, wishlist, expenses, photos, and achievements) through Apple CloudKit in the private container iCloud.com.lutarea.yourtravel. Lutarea does not receive a copy on its own servers. Sync requires iCloud on each device; if iCloud is unavailable, the App falls back to local storage on that device.
  • JSON backup (export / import) — under Settings → Data, use Export backup (JSON) and Import backup. When iCloud is available, exports are saved automatically to iCloud Drive → Lutarea BACKUPS → Your Travels Backups (shared Lutarea container iCloud.com.lutarea.backups). Files are named like your-travel-backup-…json. This user backup store is separate from CloudKit sync above. Under Backup location you can Choose folder… for a custom location (remembered until reset) or Reset to default folder. If iCloud is unavailable and no custom folder is set, automatic export fails until you choose a folder or sign into iCloud. Import merges new countries and places; existing records on the device are kept.
  • What JSON backup includes — schema version 1 covers visited countries and places only. It does not include trips, wishlist, trip expenses, photos, or achievements. Use CloudKit sync across your devices for those, or export places separately as GeoJSON (see below).
  • GeoJSON export — Export places (GeoJSON) shares place coordinates through the system share sheet; it is not saved to Lutarea BACKUPS.
  • Share a trip — trip owners can share a read-only snapshot with another iCloud user via Apple's CloudKit sharing. The recipient can import a copy into their own catalog; this is not live co-editing.
  • Apple Watch — the companion can show a summary and quick-add a place from the watch; the iPhone App persists data and CloudKit syncs when available.
  • Widgets and Live Activity — optional home screen widgets read a local snapshot from the App Group. An optional Live Activity may show when a trip is in progress, subject to iOS settings.
  • Notifications — optional local reminders before trip or wishlist dates; enable in Settings → Notifications.
  • Currency conversion — when a trip has a start date, the App may fetch historical USD/EUR rates from the public National Bank of Ukraine API to show converted budget totals. No Lutarea account is required.
  • Security and privacy — optional app lock (passcode and Face ID / Touch ID) under Settings → Security; optional blur in the app switcher under Settings → Privacy.
  • Photo discovery — optional toggle in Settings → Features scans photo library metadata on device to suggest countries you may have visited (off by default).
  • Shortcuts — add a Siri Shortcut or Shortcuts action to open the add-place flow from outside the App.
  • Location and photos — location is used when adding a place to suggest country and city; camera and photo library access are requested only when you attach or save photos.
  • Language and appearance — nine interface languages (English, Ukrainian, German, Italian, Russian, Slovak, Spanish, French, Czech) and System / Light / Dark / Midnight themes in Settings.
  • Reset — Settings → Reset deletes local App data on the device (trips, places, countries, wishlist, and related records). Uninstalling the App also removes local storage; data already in your iCloud account may remain until you manage it in iCloud or on another signed-in device.

Reporting a problem

When you email support, include your iOS version, App version (Settings → version footer), and steps to reproduce. Screenshots help. For backup/import issues, note whether iCloud was available, whether you use a custom backup folder, and the backup filename if known. For sync issues, confirm the same Apple ID is signed into iCloud on each device.
